About David

David Coldwell was born during the spring of 1970. It was late April and a deep covering of snow welcomed David to the world. This was, after all, the Pennines.

At the time, his family rented a small cottage on a working farm, high above the village of Marsden. Although his family eventually gave in to the damp conditions and savage winters, this seemingly idyllic start in life gave David a passion for the surrounding landscape.

Today, David lives in Slaithwaite near Huddersfield with his wife, Amanda, and their three children.

Working from his home studio, David creates paintings using oils and mixed media that evoke memories of a lost way of life. Drawing inspiration from isolated farms, wild moorland and mill towns, his paintings depict the sometimes harsh yet idyllic world of the Pennines.

Many of David’s farm paintings feature a red door; a simple metaphor for loss. The farm where David was born still survives, albeit as just a family home. The red paint that once covered the barn door has now gone; brushed off by relentless storms never to be replaced.

David’s original paintings have become very popular and so that his work can be enjoyed by more collectors many of David’s images are now published as limited edition prints. Each print is signed and numbered by David.
